Hitler Comes to Power - SHORT SUMMARY - In the early 1930s, the mood in Germany was grim. The worldwide economic depression had hit the country especially hard, and millions of people were out of work. Still fresh in the minds of many was Germany's humiliating defeat in World War I, and Germans lacked confidence in their weak government, known as the Weimar Republic. These conditions provided the chance for the rise of a new leader, Adolf Hitler, and his party, the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or Nazi party for short.

Hitler was a powerful and spellbinding speaker who attracted a wide following of Germans desperate for change.

He promised the disenchanted a better life and a new and glorious Germany. The Nazis appealed especially to the unemployed, young people, and members of the lower middle class. The party's rise to power was rapid as the economic depression struck, Hitler was practically unknown, but his writings Mein Kampf which fully expressed his political ideology and won critical acclaim. In the 1932 elections, the Nazis won more seats than any other party. In January 1933 Hitler was appointed chancellor, the head of the German government, and many Germans believed that they had found a savior for their nation.

Once he gained a majority, Hitler moved with ruthless determination to crush his opponents and establish his totalitarian dictatorship. Under the Enabling Act, the government had acquired the authority to pass laws without either parliamentary consent or control. Unprecedentedly, these laws could even deviate from the Constitution. The Act effectively eliminated any remaining democracy and it transformed Hitler's government into a legal dictatorship and National Socialism.

As a form of government, National Socialism is totalitarian in character aiming at the total control of all politics, economy, social relationships and thought, by a small group which claims to understand how to cope with all aspects of human existence.

Hitler initiated public works projects to help reduce unemployment. Hitler consolidated his authority through the destruction of all other political parties, "coordination" of all aspects of German life. The Nazis stepped up their harassment of their political opponents.

In practical terms, Nazi Party and their Socialist agenda required the economy to serve the interests of the state.

The media which hailed the change supported Hitler and used the propaganda created by the administration to convince the German people that government control of all commerce was necessary to ensure the survival of the country.

Strange how history has a tendency to repeat itself.

The media revolution that they inherently believe is needed actually creates a "Big Brother" dominance structured to prevent a balanced discussion of truth and justice. Given control, they would emulate a more dictatorial, tyrannical media eliminating a government by the people. The rights of man come not from the generosity of the State, but from the Hand of God. They look at America as the new Roman Empire. On the contrary, our actions allow other nations to build a future of democracy, free speech, free trade and economic growth, utilizing their own resources, people and businesses. Our safety, and the safety of democracy itself hinges on the ability of a people not to be threatened with tyranny, but given the opportunity of freedom.

I'm in marketing and advertising, false advertising is a crime!
He lied to everyone - not just his family - because he cashed the checks, and once you cash the checks your obliged to reciprocate to anyone who bought into him,
his endorsements, his play, anything that benefited him and supported him financially. We bitch about steroids, dog fighting, drugs and guns, but infidelity is overwhelmingly excepted and given a pass... "let's just see him play". That's a bunch of crap!

I was offended by a comment made by Shannon Owens (Orlando Sentinel) who said on "First Take", ESPN this morning that "SHE is not offended by what Tiger Woods did". WOW, a woman, and african-american woman not offended by his actions? So, I emailed her to ask her what planet she lives on - her response "I live on planet reality. Why should anyone other than Tiger Woods' wife be personally offended about the infidelities he committed toward his wife? He didn't cheat on you or me, he cheated on his wife. Tiger Woods isn't a pastor, he's a professional athlete". Didn't they say that about Clinton? So, Ms. Owens, are we to believe that his character as an athlete is separate from his home life? His decency to his family can be segregated from his work? No Way! In his comments today even Woods said "character and decency really count." Why should we accept this level of moral blindness? Only until it hits home? I believe Ms. Owens' comments reflect a lack of courage by the media and herself, to defend basic values and morals and demand accountability by those who benefit from pretending to be role models and those who use fame to build fortune. This blatant segregation, perpetrated by ignorant media suck ups has created this myth of two lives - splitting a persons work, in this case, sports, and ones personal life! Have some guts and stand up for the victims here and not the morally bankrupt!
Three of the LPTVs are in Lima: WOHL-CA (Ch. 25, Fox/MNT), WLMO-LP (Ch. 38, CBS) and WLQP-LP (Ch. 18, ABC). The fourth, WFND-LP (Ch. 22, indy) is in Findlay OH, part of the Toledo DMA.

There is no prohibition to adding low power anythings to a local broadcast cluster. However, when Schurz set up a similar deal in South Bend IN recently, it attracted national attention from watchdogs. It may here as well. However, there are few markets where LPTVs are enough of a factor to set up this type of situation.

Block owns four other stations in addition to WLIO and two newspapers, including The Blade in Toledo.

The agreement puts an end to litigation that began when the Phippses accused Block of trying to take away
the Fox affiliation including using illegal tactics. The Phippses accused Block of undermining efforts to extend a local affiliate agreement between WOHL and FOX Broadcasting and said Block looked at their books under a nondisclosure agreement and then illegally used that information.

DAN’S TWO CENTS
Hats off to Gregg and Kathleen whom I know personally and have the utmost respect for.
This however could be a very uncomfortable situation for advertisers in the Lima Area knowing that competition is what fuels creativity and growth and when one entity owns all the commercial broadcast television stations in what has always been a great retail market (per household) it could lead to some pull back in advertising $$$$$. Look for rampant giveaways and great deals in every media in town as vehicles scramble for a toe-hold during the honeymoon.
